Finally, some quiet. Bast sat on a large boulder in a small clearing, legs drawn in. It was a peaceful evening, the darkening sky stained purple after the storm clouds receded. It had been hot and humid all day, she had figured it would bring in a good storm. And so it did. The wind rustled the grass. All that said, the smell of death was on the wind. It plugged her nose, acrid and sour.
Her ears flicked backwards at the sound of someone calling her name.
She tried to ignore it.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
... It stopped. She sighed audibly through her nose and flicked her tail over her feet.
All of a sudden, the voice was right behind her.
Still seated, she whipped her head around, irritated.
"What?!"

Filled with early-evening energy that Amora was so prone to, kitsune jumped at the chance to bother the Deputy the moment she spotted her out in the clearing. Her ears perked up as she silently snickered, plotting how best to go about her annoyance as she dropped into a low crouch and slunk forward.
"Baaaast."
No response. A good sign. She crept a bit closer.
"Baaaast."
Nothing. Well, she knew that. Closer she became!
"Baaaast!"
With a grin so wide that it clearly exposed canines, she stood immediately behind the Deputy, lucky enough that Bast's tail hadn't hit her with a flick. Lowering her voice into a whisper, she repeated the name only once more.
"Bast!"
As the Deputy threw her head back to view the trouble-maker, Amora propelled herself forward, swinging her arms around the other into a forceful hug. Once she had her, she unrelentlessly squeezed, nuzzling the side of her face onto Bast's as she giggled mischievously.
"I gave you plenty of warning, Bast! You shouldn't be alone when the night's still young!"
Although she was trying to annoy the Deputy, it was all in good spirit. In fact, she was having such a swell time that she didn't even notice a hint of what scent lingered in the wind.
Then again, a fox's sense of smell is no match to a cat's.

"Agh! Get off of me!" She shrieked, prying Amora's arms off of her and scrambling to her feet and away.
"I was hoping that I could keep my windpipe intact, thanks. Honestly, what is your obsession with anyone taller than you?" Her ears lay flat and her arms dropped to her side in pseudo-defeat as she realized who would be pestering her tonight.

Lounging on a branch like a long, dark jaguar, Hakon watched the girls from a fair distance away. The side of his face rested on the rough bark and his mouth was stretched in a content smile. He hadn't meant to hone in on Bast's private time when he'd chosen this tree to lay in, and he wasn't planning on it now.
Hakon rested his face on the other side so he was no longer watching, giving the girls their space but happily listening to their interraction.

Only cooperating at the last moment Bast freed herself, Amora swung her arms behind her and grinned ear to ear. Her long, bushy tail swayed playfully to and fro as she waited for her chance to pounce again.
She'd remember the location for next time.
"There's just sooo much to view with someone taller."
Swooning, Amora brought her hands out from behind her and up to her face, entertaining Bast's assumption.
"And for you, your face looks like beautiful shades of the sky when the sun starts to set. Y'know?"
A compliment for no reason? Absolutely not; the kitsune was merely waiting for her chance. |

She frowned deeply, her hands coming to rest on her hips. It was a good thing her skin pretty much prevented her from blushing. Taking compliments really wasn't her strong suit.
"No, I don't know. But you're complimentary today. And it's freaking me out.
So is there a reason you're bothering me? Somebody dying?" She sneered, deflecting her embarrassment from being caught off guard.

"Really?"
Tilting her head ever-so innocently, the playful movement of her tail slowed to a stop. She took a moment to process and think, forming her idea aloud. Not often would she come to share her ideas of playtime.
"Well I was thinking! Wouldn't it be fun to have a day and share spooky stories? Or! Or, wouldn't it be fun to set up a trail with a bunch of tra-- spooky obstacles to go through with partners?"
She devilishly grinned, plots forming.
"And since you're the bravest warrior we have, wouldn't it be perfect if you guided others through the "haaaaunted" trail?"
She really out here trying to invent something like a new holiday or celebration. Probably came up with this on the spot, too. |

"Spooky obstacles. That's probably one of the funnier jokes I've heard you make." Said Bast, knowing full well the kind of mischief the fox could get into using vague descriptions like that.
"The apprentices trained all day in this heat. If they have enough energy for something like that I'm sure Hakon would approve." Pause. "So maybe Hakon would prefer to guide. He's more the guiding type."

Although still smiling bright and proud, the kitsune couldn't help but roll her eyes at the deputy's assumption.
"And it would totally be way bigger than, like, something set up tonight. I'd need at least a day to work something out that'll really be amazing! You approve, then?"
Her tail swished side to side as she leaned forward and in, closing again the distance between the two with her hands clasped. If she could, she'd pounce on Bast at the earliest sign of approval.

She leans back with her arms crossed over her chest, she peers down at the kitsune, still suspicious.
"I'm keen on the idea of them getting some more training. Evasion is a good skill to learn. If everyone isn't already half expecting to end up dangling by the foot from a tree branch when you're out of sight for longer than an hour."
"Fine. What do you mean by narrative?"
